Animal companions are kind of better in every way than martial characters in these rules, so I'd suggest not giving anyone animal companions because then people will just play the bear/whatever instead of their character (because the bear is better in every way).

Until you man up and admit to yourself that you are writing a whole new game and start defining what character classes you intend to support and what you intend for them to do, all of this is just word salad.

So far you have decided that you want to implement at least one class to be an MMO-style "Tank". That is the sole decision you have thus far made that in any way illustrates what the fuck you are doing or how any of this is supposed to work.
